I Just Want Right People to  See My Work

Bolly.id - Much before Ananya Pandey made a debut in the film Student of the Year 2, she was a sensation on Instagram. When she first came in the news for her looks and style, everyone was surprised. Daughter of 90s actor Chunky Pandey, the new actor has been making waves. She has emerged as one of the most promising newcomers, who is likely to be the new Alia Bhatt. Although it's too early to talk about her journey, one can still vouch for the angelic look of Ananya and also her terrific screen presence.

She is the only newcomer who has been confidently giving interviews to the media and is ready to talk about how she is getting attention because of father’s surname. She has not dismissed nepotism in Bollywood but talks about the pressure that her filmi connection brought in.

Ananya came into notice, as she started making waves through her colourful Instagram pictures. She comes from an illustrious background, and her friend’s list includes Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan. They party together, shop together and also post pictures on Instagram. They have been loved by the masses and much before the movie was made and Karan Johar considered launching Ananya.

Father Chunky Pandey has been very supportive of his daughter but has never gone overboard about how he wants his daughter to succeed. She is a well-educated person, who has been answering the media queries with a lot of poise. She has studied in the University of Southern California, after finishing her schooling from Mumbai.

She has been guarded about her personal life, but rumours are strong that she has been dating Karan Jaisingh, son of famous designer Mona Jaising.

Although Ananya emerged as the winner on Instagram, she revealed that she was often uncomfortable in school due to her tall and skinny physique. She was called hunchback as she was tall and had to bend to talk to people.

But, looking at her stardom, she has made a mark in the filmdom now. This has been the most prolific year for her. After the success of Student of The Year 2, Ananya is now set to work in Pati Patni Aur Woh opposite Kartik Aaryan. She has been enjoying the new found attention that she has always loved. There has also been news of her romance with actor Kartika Aryan, but Ananya doesnot want to get embroiled in that controversy.

Here’s what she wants to tell her fans about her success, love life and being Chunky Pandey’s daughter:

Congratulations on the response that you are getting for Student of the Year

Thanks, its really heartening to see the positive response. I was really anxious to see the reaction of the audience. I am very happy that the audience liked the movie and the youngsters are enjoying it the most.

Much before you appeared in the movie, people knew you as you were a star on the Instagram

Yes, people did know me on Instagram, but my ultimate goal was to be on the big screan and enjoy the bigger frame. Although I loved the attention to be on the screen, but always knew it would not be so easy. Till the time I started shooting for the film, it was not something I was too confident about.

What was the biggest challenge that you faced while you started shooting for SOTY 2?

The biggest challenge was deliver before the camera. Tara(Sutaria) has some experience of working in films, while Tiger has been an established star. It was me who needed to make a strong appearance on the screen. For this, i was initially very nervous. I did not even know about the camera angles. I wondered if I will last or not, but soon I realised that the I will go ahead with my vulnerability and people will like me as I am.

How is  it to be Chunky Pandey’s daughter.

Cool. He is a wonderful father, who has always showed me the right path. I am blessed to be his daughter. This is because he has been a very grounded person all his life. I loved to see the way he managed his family life and professional life.

Which is your father’s favourite movie

In fact I have watched all his movies. But the most favoured one is Aankhen and Tezaab. I think dad had an amazing comic timing. This is something that I would love to imbibe in the films.

What is the advice that he gave you?

He is the most talented persons and as a father he is not the type who would ever give me sermons or lectures. He enjoys the craft, and always asked me to love the work and enjoy everything as it comes. There has never been anything that he has stopped me from. But, in films he has always asked me to keep my head on the shoulder and learn to work with dignity.

How was your experience to work in Pati Patni Aur Woh, with Kartik Aaryaan

I was superexcited to learn about being cast in the movie. I always wanted to be in the movie. The movie is completely different from SOTY 2, so the challenge is more. Kartik is a simple person who works hard to make the scene better. I hope to learn from Bhumi too. I just want the audience to except me as an actor.

What is the expectation from a newcomer who is an outside and those who are from filmi-background?

Everyone has to face the challenge, but the problem is that those who come from a filmi-background are judged way too harshly. This is the reason that they have to live upto the expectation of the fans. People keep running you down, and you have to prove to be one in the million. So the struggle remains the same. Everyone has to work equally hard.

We have heard that you know how to manage the troll that’s because you were bullied a lot in school

Oh yes. I was bullying for being the tallest girl in the school. I used to enjoy every bit of it. So when I faced trolls on the social media, I was perfectly fine with it. I don’t mind them speaking whatever they want to because they are simply blabbering and my father has taught me how to ignore it.

Tell us about your friendship with Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan?

We have been childhood friends and  it has been our collective dream to become actors. I hope Suhana and Shanaya Kapoor (daughter of Anil Kapoor’s brother Sanjay Kapoor) join the industry soon because they both are so talented.

When we were young, during our family gatherings, we would put together shows and perform in front of our parents. Shah Rukh sir would record us on a handycam, and we would make short films out of them.

What was your parent’s reaction when you expressed your desire to be an actor?

I wanted to be an actor since childhood. But, my parents only realised I was serious about acting when they saw a performance of mine for the first time. I was playing Miranda in a school performance of The Tempest. My father wanted me to take up acting course to make me understand the seriousness of the world of cinema.

Do you think SOTY 2 helped you bag Pati, Patni Aur Woh.

I signed Pati Patni Aur Woh remake - even before the release of Student Of The Year 2. I think for my casting of Pati Patni Aur Woh remake the makers saw my ad film which I did for a brand and they decided to cast me in the film. I am thankful for the chance and I have a lot more work to do in the cinema.

What do you have to say about nepotism in Bollywood?

I agree that nepotism exists in Bollywood. But it exists in all industries, not just our (Bollywood) industry. I am very lucky that I got this chance and audition, I will never be feeling guilty in any way because I auditioned for the movie twice. I was work-shopping with Punit (Malhotra) for a year after that. So, from inside I worked for this and I don’t have that guilt in me.

Do you think it is talent or only filmi surname that works in Bollywood

Its hardwork that works in Bollywood. My dad has worked so hard to earn a name in the industry and to gain respect. So, I don’t want to take away anything from him. I don’t want to  bring in shame for just being using his name.

Is there too much of rivalry between you an SOTY2 co actor Tara

Not really. There was no tension. Tara and I, our work have not been out there for people to speak about. So, that’s probably why they are speaking about other things and I hope after the films come out, they speak about worK.

Are you prepared to be under constant vigil?

I am well-prepared about the constant vigil while growing up. I think I have always seen this happening. It’s like I have been prepared for it in a way. So, when these things happen, it does not affect me. I knew it would happen and I am prepared for it. It’s part and parcel of the job. I enjoy being the centre of attraction.
